Dear 1959 Classmates:

Plans are being formulated for a great weekend of festivities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our class graduation from Grady High. Please mark May 1 and 2, 2009, on your calendar and plan to attend.

I'm sure we all wondered back then, marching out of the old Atlanta Municipal Auditorium with fresh Grady diplomas in hand, "Gosh, i wonder what our 50th class reunion will be like." Well, now we're going to find out.

Many thanks for contributing to make sure all classmates can attend our reunion and for helping with reunion expenses. If you've not yet done so, please send a check, payable to "Grady Class of 1959 Reunion," to Bob Strickland, 509 Takely Drive, Lawrenceville, GA, 30044. If you need financial assistance to attend, please don't hesitate to call Bob at 770-995-0550, and be assured this will be handled in confidence.

Here's the plan: We will start with a casual Varsity-catered party at Garden Hills Recreation Center, 339 Pinetree Drive, Atlanta, on Friday May 1st from 6-9 PM, featuring your favorite Varsity vittles, served from 7:30-8:30, plus beer and wine. The website, www.Gardenhillspool.com, includes directions.

The next event will be on Saturday, May 2nd, from 6-11PM, at 103 West. This is an upscale Pano and Paul's restaurant at 103 W. Paces Ferry Rd. NW, Atlanta,. Cocktail hour, with a cash bar, is 6:30 to 7:30, followed by a deluxe meal, an entertaining program and dancing to the kind of music we knew back when music was good. Dress will be upscale-casual. The website, "103 West", includes directions and a map.

Morningside Grammar School: "To all you guys who went to Morningside and want to go through it one more time. Donald Bohne has arranged for us to walk through the school on Saturday May 2nd, at 2:00 pm. It should be a lot of fun and bring back a lot of memories. Park where you can, and we'll meet promptly at 2 pm at the front entrance."

Following dinner on the 2nd, Bill Hedgepeth, Dana Ivey and Eddie Lee will present selected commentaries on our classmates, so they need the more colorful details of your post-Grady life. You might answer such questions as: What would you most want us to know about you? When did you realize you were still crazy after all these years? If you were held at Guantanamo, what would you confess to in order to avoid torture? Who are your accomplices? And do you actually think we are dumb enough to believe anything you say? The very reasonable price for these events is $125 per person, $250 per couple. Please dash off your check, payable to "Grady Class of 1959 Reunion," to Bob Strickland - and, if you can, toss in a little something extra for the scholarship. You may bring a paying guest or two who is not a classmate but who may have gone to your grammar school or who did not graduate with our class.

And if you know how to reach any of the "missing persons" on the enclosed list, please inform us.

WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP:

Due to the economy, gas prices, the stock market, and other factors, we need donations to help defray the costs of incidentals such as postage, DJ for Friday and Saturday nights, photographer, web-site designer, slideshow, printing, etc., over and above the preset price to attend each event. We also need donations to fund full and partial scholarships to assist those members of our class who want to attend the reunion but cannot do so because of the cost and their financial situation. Need and identity will be strictly confidential. WE WANT EVERYONE TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE 50TH REUNION.
